Benito's first memory is already on a bike, for both pleasure and necessity, since his parents lived on the outskirts of Abárzuza, a small town in Tierra Estella (Navarra). That is why his means of transport was the bicycle and thanks to that it became more than a means of transport, a way of life. But his grandparents also have a very important part in this story, while they saw children of his age racing around the village, his grandson did not stop jumping on the river banks, going down stairs, doing little horses... that's when they decided to buy him a bike for those pirouettes he did, and when he had his first trial bike. Thanks to Iker Lezeta, a trial rider who spent his summer in a nearby town, saw him and explained to him that that modality he was so good at was Trial and that there was a championship established in Navarra with an important competition calendar. Benito decided to give it a try, and at 13 years of age he had his first competition. Two years later he was already champion of Navarra in the junior category and the following year he was crowned champion of Spain. Shortly after that, in 1999, he won his first World Championship.
